Wildfires by Ramcharan Nagisetty

1.What is your Natural Disaster?

My natural disaster is a wildfire a wildfire contaminates the air with toxins. Wildfires can release large quantities of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, Wildfires may also kill some people who breathe in these toxins

2.Explain the cause of your Natural Disaster.

humans cause most Wildfires because of campfires left unattended, equipment use and malfunction, and negligently discarded cigarettes. Another cause of wildfires is long hot lightning bolts that start fire.

3.Describe the 3 most dangerous examples of your natural disaster. Include where they happened, when they happened, and what made it so bad.

  • Coming in at 3 is the Chinchaga fire also known as the Wisp Fire or the Fire 19, this fire took place in Canada, from June till the early fall of 1950. The worst factor in this fire is that the Chinchaga Fire burned nearly 1.7 million acres of boreal forest

  • Coming at number 3 the Australian bushfire also known as the Black Friday Bushfire happened on January 13, 1939, in Australia when the temperatures reached 44.7C at the capital Melbourne, and 47.2C in Mildura. The factor that made it so bad is the fact that the fires covered three-quarters of the state's land before getting it under control, this also took 71 lives and destroyed more than 700 homes

  • Coming at number 1 is The Great Fire of 1910, also known as the Big Burn this happened on August 20, 1910, in the US when the combination of high winds and low humidity caused a lot of smaller fires to create one big fire. The factor that makes this the worst fire is that it killed 87 people and burned over 3 million acres of land

4.How does your natural disaster impact your biome? What are the positive and negative effects of the natural disaster?.

The impact that the wildfire has on my biome is that we are going to use a deciduous tree instead of coniferous trees fare only a few decades. A positive impact on my biome is that the tree can change back to coniferous trees, another positive impact is that climate warming and increased wildfire activity could lead to changes in forests over the coming years. Some negative impacts are that in recent years there has been a uptick in fire disturbance in these forests so it might take longer for the switch for the coniferous trees.

5.How does your natural disaster impact your organism? What are the positive and negative effects on your organism's life?

Wildfires affect my organism negatively when Photosynthesis is regulated by stomatal conductance and underestimating the impact of wildfire smoke on trees. My organism is positively effected when a reduction of chemical emissions in ponderosa pines due to wildfire smoke and the seeds can fall on to the sandy forest floor ( not included in the source).
